An Update on California Wildfire Efforts from AKC

Hello All,

Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by the deadly wildfires in California. AKC Reunite has been actively working to aid shelters and organizations that are taking care of pets displaced by the fires.

AKC Pet Disaster Relief trailers were donated to the areas impacted by the current wildfires. The trailers are stocked with critical supplies, like crates, bowls, leashes, cleaning supplies, a generator, microchips and a microchip scanner, so these counties can quickly and efficiently set up emergency shelters for displaced pets.

The AKC Pet Disaster Relief trailer donated to Sacramento County is deployed at the Yuba-Sutter Fairgrounds in Yuba City, helping the many that have evacuated the wildfires. Additionally, a $10,000 donation was made to the North Valley Animal Disaster Group (NVADG), an all-volunteer organization running point in Butte County with local emergency agencies to help people and animals in this time of crisis.

Ventura County is also benefiting from their two AKC Pet Disaster Relief trailers in response to the Woolsey Fire. To further assist with the care and sheltering of pets affected by this fire, AKC Reunite has made a $10,000 cash donation to Ventura County Animal Services. Los Angeles County Animal Care Foundation also received a $10,000 donation to help care for these displaced pets. AKC Reunite has also made $5,000 donations to two UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine funds: The Veterinary Catastrophic Need Fund, which provides veterinary medical treatments for animals that are injured in wildfires, natural disasters or other accidents, and the Veterinary Emergency Response Team Fund.

Additionally, the AKC Humane Fund is making $15,000 in donations. Ventura County Animal Services, North Valley Animal Disaster Group and LA County Animal Care Foundation will each receive $5,000 to assist in their efforts.

Anyone who knows of a non-profit animal organization or shelter that needs assistance caring for pets displaced from the fires should contact communications@akc.org. We will make sure we help in any way we can.
