Belgium's Multiple World Champion motocross Eric Geboers drowns while trying to save a puppy.
The body of Eric Geboers – famed World Champion Motocross star – was found after a long search in his native Belgium. Eric and his friends were in a boat along with his puppy. The pools they were boating on are deep recreational artificial lakes with notably cold water. The puppy fell in the water and Eric and another person jumped in trying to save the puppy. The water was very cold. The friend got out, but Eric disappeared in the water.
After a long and extensive search, his body was found the following day. The puppy was able to save his own life swimming to the shore, but unfortunately for Eric it was too late – with the shock of the cold of the water probably being the main reason for the tragedy. The temperature of the water was only 16°C, but where his body was found was only 6°. The temperature in the water could vary strongly from place to place.
Known as "The Kid", Eric Geboers was 55 years old at the time of his death. He was a 5 time World Champion Motocross and the first ever to win the title in the 3 categoires, 125cc, 250cc and 500 cc, and the first ever to win the title in every category.
From 1980 to 1990 he had many highlights in his successful career. Eric was said to have a big heart for animals and seeing a puppy in trouble in the water was for him enough to try to save it. Eric is now not only a Multi World Champion but a big hero. In his mind, every life counted, even that of a small puppy.
