LETTER FROM THE EDITOR
“Everyone has a story to tell.” So said Frank McCourt who shared his family’s story in the Pulitzer Prize-winning memoir Angela’s Ashes. Though his acclaimed book recounted an impoverished childhood growing up during the Great Depression, his writing offers proof that every experience is worthy of retelling. This is true for everyone, rich and poor and everyone in the middle, including the people who breed, show, and love dogs the way breeders, exhibitors, judges, and companion homes do. In my role as editor of SHOWSIGHT, I am always open to finding stories to share with our readers. As often as not, those stories find their way to me, either through a conversation at a show or perhaps by way of a photograph or video. Each encounter is a reflection of our community as it is, a collective of individuals whose participation represents a continuum that reaches back centuries and stretches toward the future. Wins and losses certainly tell a story, but so do the prep work and packing, the setting up and breaking down, and the laughter and tears that accompany each day. If you’ve got a story to tell, I hope you will consider sharing it with our readers. Your words may provide just the right inspiration for someone who needs to understand that their story is also worth telling.
As you enjoy this issue, I wish you the very best of luck in your personal pursuits and hope that you find what you’re looking for.
