Entry of 205 could represent more than 20% of Bulldogs competing in Conformation.
EAST PEORIA, Ill. — The Bulldog Club of America’s 2026 National Specialty is shaping up to be a historic celebration of the breed, drawing an entry of 205—the largest National entry since the double National in Norman, Oklahoma, in 2021.
Beyond its size, this year’s entry represents an extraordinary level of participation from the Bulldog community. Preliminary historical comparisons suggest the 2026 National could draw the highest proportion of the breed’s active Conformation population in the event’s history, excluding the unusually elevated figures of the pandemic-affected 2021 season.
If the number of Bulldogs competing in Conformation this year remains consistent with 2025, the entry would represent approximately 18.3 percent of that population. If participation follows the previous year’s 9 percent decline, the proportion would exceed 20 percent—a remarkable gathering of the breed’s active competitors at a single National Specialty.
While final percentages will depend on complete 2026 participation data, the strong entry is already cause for celebration. It reflects the enthusiasm of exhibitors, the commitment of breeders and owners, and the dedication of the committee working to create a memorable National.
The week brings the Bulldog community together to celebrate excellence in the ring, strengthen friendships, and recognize the people whose passion sustains the breed. This year’s response points to a community eager to participate and support its signature event.
The 2026 Bulldog Club of America National Specialty will take place Oct. 24–31 at the Embassy Suites East Peoria Riverfront in East Peoria, Illinois.
