With 26 years of dedicated experience in the sport of dog shows, David Gutierrez has developed a deep and abiding passion for the field. He is currently serving his third year as President of the Japanese Chin Club of America, having previously been an active Board Member and holding various other positions, including Editor of the club’s newsletter. For the past seven years, he has also been a member of the National Committee. In addition to his role with the Japanese Chin Club of America, David serves as the Show Chair for the Papillon Club of Northern California, where he is in his third year, and also a Board Member. He is also in his second term as Vice President of the Pekingese Club of Central California and contributes as Co-Editor for the Pekingese Club of America’s newsletter. Outside of the dog show community, David is an enthusiastic volleyball player with a longstanding passion for the sport. His experience includes coaching high school varsity volleyball and volunteering to teach the fundamentals of volleyball to young players. David is grateful to his husband, Dean Schieler, who introduced him to the world of dog shows 27 years ago. Together, they operate under the kennel name Royalsilk, and they show and breed Japanese Chin and Pekingese. Their breeding achievements include finishing over 75 Champions and 20 Grand Champions. Notably, they won Best of Breed with their Japanese Chin, Annie, at Westminster in 2023, and picked up a Toy Group 4 placement—an accomplishment not achieved by a Japanese Chin in over 25 years. Their dedication has resulted in numerous Best in Show titles, Group wins, National Specialty wins, and records for top Chin. In his professional life, David manages a successful business with a talented team, consistently achieving high performance. Looking ahead, he is eager to gradually reduce his commitments to focus more on enjoying life’s adventures with Dean.
