Marlene Groves is a retired business consultant, who with her husband, has raised American Buffalo for over three decades. The Groves family started with AKC in 1980 with Basset Hounds, but by 2000 had switched to Bloodhounds. Operating under the ranch and kennel name of Buffalo Groves, they breed, show, mentor, educate, and do a variety of other dog sports and events. Marlene is an AKC Judge, nearing the completion of her first Group (Hounds), an AKC Breeder of Merit, AKC Delegate, and is very active in many dog clubs and the local purebred dog community. Marlene pours her passion into our sport in areas like youth and education. She developed both a Dog Show and American Buffalo patch program for Girl Scouts, where she remains as a lifetime member. She founded the American Grassfed Association, a multi-species agriculture organization; and has served in many board roles in the Buffalo/Bison Industry, including President. She feels her affiliation in both Girl Scouts and in agriculture helps her greatly with the sport of dogs and as a judge. Marlene never tires being an advocate for Juniors and is known as the energy behind the Junior Foundation, even inspiring the AKC to advance and add additional Junior programs. She is also a major encourager to newcomers in the sport. Marlene has bred and shown many Champions, Grand Champions, Group winners, Futurity winners, Best in Specialty Show winners, along with dogs with titles in Rally, Obedience, Fast CAT, Man-trailing, and more. But she is proudest of her K9, Radar, awarded the 2016 AKC ACE Award. It is a priority that her dogs can do their real working Bloodhound job (not just show), so pups from each litter are placed to do so. Marlene shares insight and inspiration about Junior Showmanship and bringing new people into our sport, but will also add honest, or even tough, thoughts about the sport and dog clubs to hopefully help with discussions and ideas to take our sport forward.
