Amy Sorbie Amy Sorbie has been an AKC judge since 2004. She judges the Hound, Non-Sporting, Toy, and Herding Groups. Amy has judged throughout the United States and in Europe, Japan, and Australia. She has judged Specialties for Borzoi, Afghan Hounds, Saluki, Basenji, Beagles, Bloodhounds, Otterhounds, Norwegian Elkhounds, Sloughi, Schipperke, Chinese Shar-Pei, Chow Chows, Lhasa Apsos, and Poodles. She has judged Top 20 events at the National for Keeshond and Italian Greyhounds. She was voted in, by her peers, to judge the Borzoi National Specialty in 2011 with an entry of 289 Borzoi. She also judged the Sloughi National in 2025. Amy owns and shows Borzoi and Shiba Inu. She breeds under the “Kyrov” prefix for Borzoi and “Yukiyamasou” in Shibas. She has shown and bred Borzoi for over 40 years. The love of sighthounds is a family affair as Amy’s sister, Julie Roche of Qamari Afghans, was a prominent Afghan Hound breeder in the US for many years. Amy is an AKC Platinum Breeder of Merit for Borzoi, and has bred over 100 AKC Champions. Amy has bred many top-ranked Borzoi, including two Number One Borzoi (Breed system) in the US in 2001 and 2002. She has been presented with the prestigious Borzoi Club of America’s Top Breeder of the Year award twice. Amy has bred multiple Best in Show, Reserve Best in Show, Group winning, and Specialty Best in Show Borzoi, and National Specialty Best of Breed, Best of Winners, and Best in Sweepstakes winners. Her Borzoi have also competed and held titles in Coursing and Obedience. Amy’s home-bred SBIS CH Kyrov’s Crescendo is the top-producing sire in Borzoi history. Her "Kyrov" lines figure prominently in pedigrees of many successful Borzoi in the United States and can also be found behind Japanese, Chinese, Australian, and European Borzoi. Amy Serves as Regional Governor, Chair of the Breeder Education Committee, and is one of three members of the Judges Education Committee for the Borzoi Club of America. She is a founding member and on the board of the Rocky Mountain Borzoi Club. Amy serves as President of the Rocky Mountain Non-Sporting Club, and is a member of the Evergreen and Arapahoe All-Breed Kennel Clubs. Amy lives in Colorado, with her husband and two children. She worked as a Veterinary Technician and part of the management team at VCA Alameda East Veterinary Hospital where she worked for over 35 years, and was part of the team featured on Animal Planet’s popular television show “Emergency Vets.”
