Barb Heidenreich (“Fernhill”) acquired her first Deerhound in 1970 (after a four-year wait!) and the breed love and learning began. This passion has involved attending forty-six (46) SDCA National Specialties, eight (8) Deerhound Club (UK) Breed Shows, and three (3) Dava Quaich hare coursing competitions in Inverness, Scotland. Add to that open field coursing with Deerhounds in Manitoba, the Dakotas, Colorado, and countless ASFA, NOFCA, and OLCA competitive lure and open field coursing events. Her latest thrilling event was at the Skokloster Sighthound Show (July 29-31, 2022) in Sweden judging the Deerhound Specialty. Under the Fernhill prefix she has been breeding, coursing, and showing with the key goal of maintaining a functional hound that can excel in both the ring and field… but the most glorious activity in the world she considers to be watching her own Deerhounds in full flight at Fern Hill, the 200 acres/81 ha. that her Deerhounds forced her to purchase exactly fifty years ago!
