Mr. David A. Alexander

DAVID A. ALEXANDER David grew up in Scotland and has been around dogs all his life, starting at a young age with a Scottish Terrier. He now lives in California, having bred and exhibited top-winning Bull Terriers for almost 40 years. David is a longtime member of the Bull Terrier Club of America (BTCA), and currently belongs to a regional Bull Terrier club, a Terrier Group club, and an all-breed club. David served for a number of years as the Genetics Chair for the BTCA Welfare Foundation and was BTCA Treasurer in 1999-2000.

While no longer breeding and exhibiting, he is an active AKC judge and judges three Groups (Terrier, Non-Sporting, Herding) as well as Best in Show. In 2019, he received a 25-year pin from AKC in recognition of his judging accomplishments to date.

In becoming a judge, he participated in AKC Judges Institutes, programs sponsored by the no longer active Dog Judges Associations in Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay Area, and more recently, institutes given by the Senior Conformation Judges Association and the American Dog Judges Association.

As a Bull Terrier judge, David has judged specialties throughout the US and overseas, including Australia, Canada, Colombia, France, Germany, Holland, Mexico, New Zealand, Russia, Scotland, and South Africa. He has judged the prestigious Silverwood competition three times (2002, 2011 and 2021), and in 2013, judged the Bronze Trophy (the Silverwood equivalent in Canada).

As a Terrier Group judge, David has judged many Terrier Specialties in the US and abroad. His assignments have included four of the most prominent Terrier shows in the US, those being Montgomery County (which he has judged on three occasions), Great Western Terrier Association (GWTA), Northern California Terrier Association (NCTA), and the Terrier Association of Oregon. In 2009, he judged the Top Twenty at the Staffordshire National in Long Beach, California. Internationally, he has judged American Staffordshires in Russia and at the French National in Paris, and Terrier Group shows in South Africa, Colombia, and Hungary. In 2013, he judged at Westminster Kennel Club in New York, and also at the Staffordshire Terrier National in Missouri.

As a Non-Sporting Group judge, David has judged several breed Specialties and Non-Sporting Group shows, including the Group show at Purina Farms in 2014. In 2018, he was honored to judge the Shiba Inu National Specialty in Orlando, Florida.

David has judged all-breeds in 11 different cities in China. Including China, he has now judged in 19 different countries: Australia, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, England, France, Germany, Holland, Hungary, Korea, Mexico, New Zealand, Poland, Russia, Scotland, South Africa, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
