Georg Walther is an AKC Breed judge based in GER. 11 AKC approvals.
Georg Walther I was born in the countryside near Heidelberg, Germany, where I grew up in a family with a deep love for animals. Our home was filled with horses, ponies, sheep, a monkey, mice, guinea pigs, birds, fish, cats, and, of course, dogs. Among them were mixed breeds as well as purebred German Shepherd Dogs and Schnauzers. Everything changed when, for my fifteenth birthday, I received a white Poodle puppy. That little dog sparked a lifelong passion and dedication to the Poodle breed.
After completing my education, I studied Architecture at university and earned my degree. During those years, my involvement with Poodles intensified. Alongside my studies, I also qualified as a professional dog groomer, a diploma that proved just as valuable throughout my career.
Today, I have been a member of one of Germany's Poodle clubs for more than 53 years. During that time, I have bred or owned over 100 champion Poodles and Pomeranians, many of them Group and Best in Show winners.
One of my silver Toy Poodles was exported to the United States, where she ranked among the country's Top Ten for several months. I am especially proud to have been included in the American Honor Roll of Breeders for breeding more than fourteen American Champions.
My involvement with Pomeranians also began with some of the finest English bloodlines, tracing strongly to the renowned Hadleigh kennel. I bred and exhibited numerous champions in this breed, including two American Champions.
Over the years, I have imported 45 dogs from England, the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Hungary, and the United States. My aim has always been to introduce outstanding bloodlines that would strengthen my breeding program and contribute to the success of my kennel.
In 1989, I was honored to receive my license to judge Poodles. A few years later, I was also licensed to judge Pomeranians and several other spitz breeds, including the Volpino Italiano, German Spitz, Japanese Spitz, and Keeshond. In addition, I am licensed to judge Pugs, Pekingese, Japanese Chins, and King Charles Spaniels at championship level.
Throughout my judging career, I have officiated in many European countries, as well as in Great Britain, where I judge Poodles, German Spitz, Keeshonds, and Japanese Spitz at championship level. Other highlights include various judging assignments in the United States, the Caribbean, Russia, Scandinavia, and Australia.
From 2018 to 2021, I served as Vice President of the German Poodle Club and was responsible for Judges' Affairs.
In October 2019, the German Kennel Club (Verband für das Deutsche Hundewesen – VDH) recognized my lifelong commitment to breeding by awarding me its highest distinction for breeders, the Baron von Gingins Memorial Medal (Baron von Gingins Gedächtnismedaille).
Granted by the AKC.
