Mr. John S. Lucas

My introduction to dogs was probably like most people. My relatives owned Bird dogs that were used for Duck, Dove, and Quail hunts as a child and then my family purchased a 13” Beagle from a Field Trial breeder near Midwest City, OK when I was in the 4th grade. “Coco” was my childhood pet, and he was spoiled rotten over his long and fun-loving life.

As an adult, I have been involved with purebred dogs, specifically Siberian Huskies and later Alaskan Malamutes, for the past 40 years. My breeding program produced Multiple Champions and several BIS/BISS winning dogs, so overall I feel we were successful. Along the way I have been a member of several All-Breed Kennel Clubs and Breed specific Clubs, holding/performing just about every position and show committee functions.

In 1998, I decided that I was interested in Judging, so I applied for Siberians and Juniors and started down the path. Currently, I judge the Working Group, Sporting group, and about a third of the Herding breeds, and find great enjoyment in the endeavor of Dog shows. My next Goal is to complete the balance of the Herding Group. Over the years, I have met a large number of excellent people, exhibitors and mentors, and made friends that I probably wouldn’t have without Dog shows.

I hope to continue my involvement & activity level going forward in the Sport of dog shows.
