Over 3,000 Top-Ranked Dogs Will Compete at the 147th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show

Newly Eligible Breed, the Bracco Italiano, Joins America’s Dog Show

New York, NY (March 21, 2023) — The 147th Annual Westminster Kennel Club DogShow presented by Purina Pro Plan, is returning to New York City on May 6, 8, and 9, 2023, after being held in Tarrytown, NY, for two years due to COVID-19.

Highlights for this year’s show include one newly AKC-recognized breed, the Bracco Italiano, and
Westminster’s inaugural Canine Celebration Day on May 6, commemorating the 10th Anniversary of the Masters Agility Championship and the 8th Annual Masters Obedience Championship, both Presented by Purina Pro Plan.

The Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show will welcome spectators once again to see 210 of the 212 recognized breeds represented at this year’s show.

The largest WKC Dog Show entries by breed are Golden Retrievers (51), Labrador Retrievers (43), Rhodesian Ridgebacks (41), French Bulldogs (38), and Whippets (35). Westminster will celebrate the newly eligible breed, Bracchi Italiani (10), as part of the 16.5 hours of FOX Sports
television coverage culminating with Best in Show on Tuesday, May 9, on FS1.

Westminster Week features over 3,000 top-ranked dogs in four different competitions. The week kicks off with the Canine Celebration Day on Saturday, May 6, 2023. The Celebration features the 10th Anniversary Masters Agility Championship and the 8th Annual Masters Obedience Championship and also includes Dock Diving at Westminster, a Breed Showcase, demonstrations of Freestyle Obedience, herding, scent work, and Dog Show 101 presentations.

The breed competitions and Junior Showmanship preliminaries will occur during the daytime on Monday (Hound, Toy, Non-Sporting, and Herding), and Tuesday (Sporting, Working, and Terrier), May 8 and 9. The Group judging, Junior Showmanship Finals, and Best in Show will be held in the evenings.
