Interview with Colin A. “Skip” Greaney – 2023 MCKC Dog Show Breed Judge

What does it mean to be invited to judge at one of the most important dog shows in the world—Montgomery?

Hello, and thanks for the inquiry. I was thrilled to judge at Montgomery County! In the world of Bull Terriers, there are very few shows with that kind of history or prestige. I have judged nearly all of the major events on the yearly Bull Terrier show calendar, and now, adding Montgomery County was a very important milestone. The Bull Terrier Club of America selects their judge, so it carries a good bit of recognition that you are doing it well in the eyes of the membership. I was both honored and delighted with this assignment.

Can I share my thoughts on my various Breed assignments?

Judging Bull Terriers and Miniature Bull Terriers is always an adventure. Bullies of all sizes are intelligent and animated, so their natural charisma comes out at any moment and you see a complete version of the dog, not just the well-groomed physical specimen but the actor, the pouty child, or the couch potato can appear in an instant. It is truly the part I enjoy the most.

In my opinion, what does the future hold for the Terrier Breeds in America and around the world?

Colin A. “Skip” Greaney: The Terrier Breeds, in general, are secure in the hearts of America and worldwide. Bull Terriers and their Miniature counterparts are a bit different in that they are often misunderstood. Once people get past their appearance and learn their charming and soon to become endearing personalities, a large segment of owners cannot imagine another breed living with them.
