Insights From Elizabeth “Beth” Sweigart – 2025 Montgomery County Kennel Club Breed Judge – Glen of Imaal & Norwich Terriers
1. What does it mean to be invited to judge at one of the most important dog shows in the world—Montgomery?
Elizabeth “Beth” Sweigart: To be invited to judge at Montgomery County is the aspiration of almost every Terrier person. This year at Montgomery, I had the honor to judge both the National Specialty for Glen of Imaal Terriers and the Norwich Terrier Club of America Specialty. Both of these clubs had great entries, with over 80 Norwich and about 60 Glens. The quality in both was outstanding, and choices to be made where the kind that made you happy.
2. Can you share your thoughts on your various Breed assignments? Please be specific.
Elizabeth “Beth” Sweigart: My Best of Breed winner in Glens was a lovely dog who had won this event before—and well-deserving. He has the correct proportions one looks for in the breed, a lovely head and expression, and in spite of the heat of the day, he showed beautifully. My winner in Norwich was a lovely red dog from Canada who has done quite well. He has a lovely outline with a good head and expression, presented in beautiful condition, and again, in spite of the heat, I must say that he, like most of the dogs in my ring, dealt with it extremely well and showed beautifully.
3. In your opinion, what does the future hold for the Terrier Breeds in America and around the world?
Elizabeth “Beth” Sweigart: It was an honor and a pleasure to be part of this annual great event. I thank the clubs and the committees for all the hard work that was done to make this weekend one of the most memorable of the year.
