The Stafford Knot, Inc. is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the Staffordshire Bull Terrier through education, rescue support, health initiatives, historical preservation and service to the breed community.
What began as a way to connect Stafford people and share meaningful information has grown into a broader effort to preserve the breed’s history, support Staffords in need and create lasting educational resources for future generations.
TSK is volunteer driven. Its work is supported by donors, sponsors, merchandise sales and people who simply believe the Stafford is worth protecting.
Education has always been central to The Stafford Knot.
Over the years, TSK has published and preserved articles from breeders, judges, veterinarians, historians and longtime Stafford enthusiasts from around the world. Much of that material remains available as a free online resource covering breed history, health, structure, breeding, performance, rescue and more.
Among its major educational projects was The Staffordshire Bull Terrier Interpretation & Illustration of the Written Breed Standard, developed through international collaboration and illustrated by Maurizio Molinari. The project became a printed resource, downloadable educational material and a breed seminar used by Stafford enthusiasts in multiple countries.
TSK has also worked to preserve important historical writings, photographs and breed material that might otherwise be lost with time.
That same purpose now drives its newest undertaking.

The Stafford Legacy Project was created to preserve the tangible history of the breed.
Important Stafford material is scattered across private collections, old magazines, photographs, pedigrees, specialty catalogs, artwork, trophies, films, recordings and personal archives. Too often, those collections disappear when homes are cleared, families downsize or longtime breed people pass away.
The goal of the Stafford Legacy Project is to collect, document, digitize and protect as much of that history as possible.
Its first major phase is the development of the Stafford Legacy Preservation Center, a permanent archive and exhibition space in North America where historical material can be safely stored, cataloged and shared.
Plans include rotating exhibits, books, photographs, trophies, artwork, kennel memorabilia, educational displays and future public events. A later phase is intended to bring selected exhibits to specialties and Stafford events through a traveling Legacy Tour.
The purpose is simple: preserve the breed’s past while making it useful to the people shaping its future.
Rescue has been part of TSK’s mission from the beginning.
Over the years, The Stafford Knot has provided financial support to Stafford rescue organizations, breed-related charitable efforts and individual dogs in need. Assistance may include veterinary care, transportation, boarding, foster support and other documented rescue expenses.
TSK has helped direct tens of thousands of dollars toward rescue and breed-related projects in the United States and abroad.
Sometimes that help supports an established organization. Sometimes it helps one Stafford at the moment that dog needs it most.
Both matter.
Fundraising also happens through The Shops at TSK, an online Stafford-focused marketplace featuring apparel, gifts, home goods, books and original Stafford designs.
Profits from the Shops help fund the nonprofit’s work in rescue, education and preservation.
That means someone can support TSK simply by buying something they already enjoy while helping fund projects that benefit the breed.
The Stafford Knot and the Legacy Project continue to grow because people choose to take part.
Financial donations can support rescue, educational work or the Preservation Center. Sponsorships can help fund archival supplies, display cases, exhibit construction, digitization, renovations and future traveling exhibits.
In-kind donations of materials, services and professional expertise are equally valuable.
TSK is also actively seeking historic Stafford material, including photographs, books, magazines, specialty catalogs, artwork, trophies, kennel records, films, recordings and memorabilia. Items may be donated outright or, in some cases, placed with the project on long-term loan.
Volunteers are needed as well, especially for research, cataloging, photography, archival work, exhibits, fundraising and events.
Because The Stafford Knot, Inc. is a recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit, qualifying charitable contributions may be tax deductible as permitted by law.
The Stafford has been shaped by generations of breeders, owners, exhibitors, rescue volunteers, judges, historians and enthusiasts.
The work of The Stafford Knot is to support the breed now — and to make sure the knowledge and history handed down to us are still here for the people who come next.
Educate. Rescue. Preserve. Give back.
That is the work.
And there is room in it for everyone.
