Interview With Vicki Abbott – 2025 Montgomery County Kennel Club Breed Judge – Parson Russell Terriers
1. What does it mean to be invited to judge at one of the most important dog shows in the world—Montgomery?
Vicki Abbott: It was truly an honor to be asked to judge the Parson Russell Terrier National Specialty and be part of the 2025 show of the historic Montgomery County Kennel Club, dedicated to holding shows exclusively for Terriers since 1929. This year was the celebration of their 96th Anniversary. Congratulations to the Montgomery County Kennel Club, and to the President, Bruce Schwartz, and all the officers and committees that make this show possible every year!
2. Can you share your thoughts on your Breed assignment(s)? Please be specific.
Vicki Abbott: I judged the Parson Russell Terrier National Specialty with an entry of 60 Parson Russell Terriers. The quality in the entry was wonderful and very enjoyable to judge. My Best of Breed dog was Ch. Classic’s High Voltage Zap! My Best of Opposite Sex to Best of Breed was GCHB Classic’s Ballroom Blitz! Overall, I had dogs with good square balance, correct harsh double coats, and flexible and compressible chests. The breed is in good shape and breeders should be congratulated on their continued efforts, as some of my decisions in the classes were difficult in a good way, with such nice quality in the Winners classes. One thing I really enjoyed was the tenacious and clever temperaments on these dogs—they were really having a good time and I was constantly entertained by their antics!
3. In your opinion, what does the future hold for the Terrier Breeds in America and around the world?
Vicki Abbott: With the quality that was in the Terrier Group at the end of the day, the future looks very bright for the Terrier Breeds. Montgomery is a show that is well attended by the best Terrier breeders, owners, and handlers every year—not only in America but around the world as well. With National Breed Clubs participating in almost all breeds, the quality of the entry will, in my opinion, continue to be the most outstanding in the country and the place to be for all things Terrier.
