Richard Reynolds’ involvement with dogs has spanned more than 50 years. From a modest beginning hunting pheasant over American Water Spaniels and working as a vet tech, a continual quest for knowledge and experience has taken him around the world. Richard was an AKC licensed handler and member of PHA until he gained AKC judging approval in 1981. He is also an approved Earthdog (AKC) and Den Trial (AWTA) judge and was recently honored to judge working terriers on their home ground in the north of England, one of the few Americans to be so honored. He has judged on multiple occasions at the ANC and M&E shows, and in Asia, Canada, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand as well as many National Specialty assignments in the US. Richard has bred, shown, and most importantly, worked Beagles, English Foxhounds, Smooth Fox Terriers, Dachshunds (MW), Bedlington Terriers, Norfolk Terriers, and Jagdterriers. He has worked each of these breeds in the field. He was the founding MFH of the Plum Run Hunt, the only dual registered (AKC/MFHA) pack in America. Richard also founded the somewhat infamous R.A.T.S. group in New York City that has hunted rats with purebred dogs for more than 35 years. He is President of Saw Mill River Kennel Club and a member of Morris & Essex Kennel Club where he serves on the Board of Directors. He is a member of Central New Jersey Hound Association. Richard is JEC for the Bedlington Terrier Club of America and has judged National Specialty shows for that club on two occasions. He is the AKC Delegate from the Garden State All-Terrier Club and serves on the HECS Committee. As a Conformation judge, he specializes in hounds and terriers, although the opportunity to judge Miscellaneous Classes and Best in Show is always appreciated. As an all-breed judge in some countries and venues, he continues to learn about additional breeds, their purpose, and their applied conformation. As an author, Richard’s articles on purebred dogs and the people they own appear bi-monthly in SHOWSIGHT magazine with topics ranging from working priorities in Conformation judging to hunting rats around the world. He has written chapters for The International Working Teckel, The Terriers of England and Wales, and Basics of Working Dachshunds and Practical Hunting.
