Insights From John Ramirez – 2025 Morris & Essex Kennel Club Breed Judge – Dogues de Bordeaux, Greater Swiss Mountain Dogs, Neapolitan Mastiffs, Saint Bernards, Tibetan Mastiffs
1. What does it mean to be invited to judge at the 2025 Morris & Essex Kennel Club All-Breed Dog Show, an unrivaled celebration of purebred dogs in America?
John Ramirez: It is truly an honor to be invited to such a grand and prestigious show. I was truly taken aback by the grandeur and the size of its entry. For me, it was another ”I can’t believe this is happening to me” experience.
2. Can you share your thoughts on your Breed assignment(s)? Please be specific.
John Ramirez: I was very impressed with the breeds assigned to me. While my Saint Bernard entry was small, the quality present was outstanding. The National Specialty somewhat conflicted with M&E, making it difficult for many Saint fanciers to attend.
3. Why do you think M&E has remained relevant to preservation breeders and dog show exhibitors in the 21st century?
John Ramirez: A longtime tradition relived every five years, M&E truly is a showcase of the cream of the crop; so evident in the number of notable breeders presenting their breed’s best.
