Richard Reynolds
Richard Reynolds has been involved in dog pursuits for the last sixty-five years as a Breeder, Licensed Professional Handler, Master of Foxhounds, Conformation Judge, AKC Delegate, JEC, Earthdog Judge, Field Trial Judge, hunter of rats and other pests, and most recently as a Hog Bay Judge. He’s traveled the world from the sheep stations of New Zealand to the wilderness of Alaska seeking out dogs where they live and work. Those past experiences, together with current adventures, help to form his breed priorities while judging in the Conformation ring. Richard has bred, shown, and most importantly, worked Beagles, English Foxhounds, Jack Russell Terriers, Norfolk Terriers, Smooth Fox Terriers, Bedlingtons, Dachshunds, and Jagdterriers. He’s achieved a degree of infamy through his R.A.T.S. group that for more than 30 years has promoted working terriers and has appeared on TV the world over presenting these dogs at their best. He’s been described as having a “quirky” sense of humor and is happy to be able to bring his experience and viewpoints to the pages of SHOWSIGHT as a Contributing Editor. He has also written chapters for The International Working Teckel and other reference works. A self-proclaimed expert at nothing, Richard writes about purposefully bred dogs, dogs at work, and virtually any other canine attribute that comes to mind. All of it, though, based on first-hand experience and observation. A popular speaker at canine events, Richard is happiest sharing your dog in the Conformation ring or hunting over his own crew in the field. His “tag line” defines him: “Life’s too short to hunt with an ugly dog.”
