Interview with Mary Paisley – 2023 MCKC Dog Show Breed Judge

What does it mean to be invited to judge at one of the most important dog shows in the world—Montgomery?

Mary Paisley: The first time I went to Montgomery County I thought, what an honor it would be to judge dogs from all over the world. Wondered if I would ever get that chance. I was honored and privileged to be voted in to be one of the judges.

Can I share my thoughts on my Breed assignment?

Mary Paisley: I went into this judging assignment knowing the Breed Standard—nose to tail. The quality of the dogs was phenomenal. There were dogs and handlers from all over the world representing their country. Lots of robust, alert terrier type, resembling the Standard Schnauzer. The dogs I put up where balanced, front to rear; heads clean with a keen expression; held their toplines on the standing pose as well as on the go-around.

In my opinion, what does the future hold for the Terrier Breeds in America and around the world?

Mary Paisley: In watching the Group(s) I would say that if these dogs are an example of what their breeds’ Standards are, then we are in good shape. The biggest problem is finding young people to take over the breeding programs from us older exhibitors.
