The American Kennel Club Honors Centennial Clubs
Clubs with 100 years or more of service to dogs to be honored by the AKC

Raleigh, NC – The American Kennel Club (AKC®) is pleased to recognize its affiliated dog clubs which have been holding AKC events for over 100 years and are an essential part of the sport of dogs.

Founded in 1884, AKC together with its affiliated organizations promote responsible dog ownership, conduct over 23,000 organized dog events per year, breed for type and function, advocate for dogs as family companions, advance canine health and well-being, and work to protect the rights of all dog owners.

The AKC, known as a club of clubs, is comprised of 5,000 licensed and member clubs supporting dog sports, the joy of dog ownership, and the relationships we share through our connection with dogs.  Through the efforts of these clubs, the sport of dogs remains strong and available for dog owners to enjoy throughout the country. The long-term strength of clubs, some of which have maintained themselves through generations, is the embodiment of a devotion to dogs.

“One of AKC’s greatest resources is its network of clubs. These clubs were formed for the purpose of holding AKC events,” said Doug Ljungren, Executive Vice President for Sports & Events. “This is where the passion for AKC sports resides. Their efforts have enriched the lives of generations of dogs and their owners. One hundred years is a remarkable achievement, and the American Kennel Club is proud to honor these Centennial clubs.”

Clubs reaching this milestone will receive a commemorative banner to proudly display, acknowledging their many years of support for dogs, their promotion of the sports, and their affiliation with the American Kennel Club.
