A Word or Two from AKC President & CEO Dennis Sprung
I am excited to announce The American Kennel Club® Museum of the Dog’s newest exhibit, “The Irish Breeds,” which will run March 5th through March 30th, 2025. In celebration of Irish canine history, the AKC Museum of the Dog is proud to host an exhibition of the Irish Breeds. For a limited time only, join us as we honor the Emerald Isle’s most notable canines—from the mighty Irish Wolfhound to the dashing Irish Terrier and the rare Irish Red and White Setter. Explore the unique history of these Irish breeds and more through artists’ stunning portrayals over the years.
In addition to the exhibition, the AKC Museum of the Dog will be highlighting the Irish Setter at their March Breed Spotlight event, on Sunday, March 16th from 12:00-2:00 p.m. Visitors will get the chance to meet a live dog and learn the history of the breed as well as key characteristics of their anatomy and coat that help them meet the Standard. This event is free for members and included with general admission for non-members.

Each year, the AKC Humane Fund, a not-for-profit organization, honors dedicated, hardworking dogs for making significant contributions to an individual or entire community. Since its creation in 2000, 125 ACE awards have been presented. We are pleased to announce that nominations for The AKC Humane FundSM are now open. This year, the ACE Awards have revamped their categories to allow a variety of different heroes to be considered for their hard work. There will now be a sixth category honoring teams, which include entire units for Search & Rescue, Therapy Dogs, and Uniformed Service K-9. In addition, the Search and Rescue category will split into two subcategories: Disaster Response, for tragedies such as natural disasters and building collapses, as well as Human Detection, which includes locating remains, missing persons, and/or gravesite detection. Nominations will be open through July 1st, 2025.
